Water-based screen printing ink for gold and silver printing
Chemical structure: aqueous dispersion of anionic synthetic resins and synthetic thickeners
Appearance: thick, white paste
pH-factor:7.5-9
Viscosity: 20.000-25.000 mPas measured by Haake's rotational viscosimeter
Storage
protect from radiant heat and freezing, in closed container
Application
Printex AE screen printing ink designed to create gold, silver and metal-effect prints.
Printex AE can be coloured with gold, silver and metal pigments, following these recipes:
gold ink :
- 80 - 85 % Printex AE
- 15 - 20 % gold pigment (powder or paste)
silver ink:
- 90 % Printex AE
- 10 % silver pigment
The silver ink tend to foaming, therefore the leftover ink has to be stored in 1.5 times larger container.
The pot life of ink, mixed with gold powder or pigment is limited. After 1 - 2 days of storage, a green coloured skim will develop on the surface. Strain it, or pass through a sieve before use the ink again.
The unused ink can be protected, apply to the surface a thin layer of glycerine, diethylene glycol or uncoloured Printex AE paste.
- The gold or silver coloured inks can be coloured with max 3 % pigment, which produces interesting metal-effect prints.
- The ink can be thinning with water and can be thickening adding Printex V or Printex VA after- thickener additives.
- Adding very small amount of Katalizátor D can lower the viscosity significantly, and also improves the fixing of the ink, catalyses the cross-linking at thermosetting.
- Adding 1 - 5 % Fixirer-2 improves rub- and wash fastness. The pot life of ink, mixed with Fixirer-2 is 3 days.
- Adding 0.5 - 1 % Katalizátor SV, the curing temperature can be lower. Do not skip thermosetting in case of gold or silver prints, and when printing on 100 % cotton fabrics. The pot life of ink, mixed with Katalizátor SV is 1 day.
Recommended mesh
Polyester Monofilament 28 - 43 T or S
Curing
- in heated chamber: 150°C 3 min
- with contact heat: 160 - 180°C 15 - 20 sec
- adding 0.5 % Katalizátor SV 130 - 150°C 10 - 15 sec
Note
Please, always make a test print before starting production runs. Make sure that expected fastness properties can be achieved with the actual base materials within your technological conditions!
